Sidewalk Repair Project

Six06 Cafe Bar is a frequent client of mine. Last summer while enjoying the outdoor seating in front, I noticed how frequently pedestrians would trip on the potholes right in front of the doors to the cafe. When the business owners told me they had reached out to the city multiple times to no response, I saw this as an opportunity to both improve the neighborhood and improve the brand’s presence there as well.

Seeing as their primary demographic has been predominantly Greek Americans, I thought the first project should be a mosaic, inspired by the artworks of Ancient Greek ruins. Also largely inspired by the work of local artist Jim Bachor. The obvious choice for all of us was to make their logo a mosaic.

The second one was a more ambitious undertaking. I described the preliminary concept to the business owners and they loved it, so I was free to run with it. I purchased cement, sand, casting resin, aerosol paint, and felt. In the grid above you can see the step by step process of constructing a beach scene, going along with the Greek summer “vibe” the business was trying to capture.

Unfortunately due to Covid and weather complications, the remainder of the project has been delayed.
